Fundamentals of Engineering Exam

Introduction

The Fundamentals of Engineering Exam is one of the major steps to becoming a professional licensed Engineer. The test consist of two 4 hour exams with the structure of the exam summarized in the table below.

MORNING SESSION

The morning 4 hour exam consist of 100 problems averaging approximately 2 minutes per problem. The topics covered in the morning exam is summarized below.

AFTERNOON SESSION

The afternoon 4 hour session consist more of harder type problems covered in the higher level courses in Engineering. The student will be able to choose one of the following test:
  1. Civil Engineering
  2. General Engineering
  3. Environmental Engineering
  4. Industrial Engineering
  5. Mechanical Engineering
  6. Electrical Engineering

Step 1: Download the FE/EI Application form

Download the form and fill it out. You will need to mail in along with the application, an application registration fee of $30.00. The address to mail the application is:

Step 2: Complete the Rules and Regulations Study Guide Questionnaire

You are required to submit the Study Guide as a part of the application process. You will need to review / print a copy of the Chapter 471, Florida Statutes, and the Chapter 61G15, Florida Administrative Code, to complete the Study Guide Questionnaire. Failure to complete the questionnaire will result in not being able to take the exam.

Step 3: Register for the exam

Once you have received approval notification from the Florida Board, you must register and pay exam fees with ELSES. The exam fee is $135.00 and can be paid via online. All information concerning testing sites, and exam procedures can be found on the Florida section of ELSES website.
